Family Friendly Vibe: A favourite for families, locals and tourists alike, Playa de Muro stretches 6km along Mallorca's northeast coast, backed in part by dunes and the trees of S'Albufera Natural Park, and boasting long stretches of fine golden sand with crystal-clear water. Whether calm and still or with gently lapping waves, the extended stretch of shallow water means even the youngest children have space to play before the water deepens. The beach has Blue Flag status meaning a lifeguard is close by, and, with access boardwalks towards either end of the beach, this is one of Mallorca's most accessible for wheelchair users and those requiring access with a pushchair.
Beach Basics: You'll find plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, alongside essential facilities like toilets and showers. There are several lifeguard stations along the length of the beach.
The beach is split into four 'sectors' with 1 and 2 (closer to Alcudia) being the busier with most facilities. Sector 3 'Es Comu' is unspoilt and backed by the Natural Park, but is slightly trickier to access with kids as parking is further away. The 4th sector, Es Capellans, becomes busier again as you reach Can Picafort.
Family Fun: Well known for its gentle waves, why not book a small group surf lesson for the kids? From paddle boarding to windsurfing, kite surfing to wingfoiling, there's something for everyone at Muro's Waters Sports Centre; Watersports Mallorca. They also offer Accessible Water Sports for those with visual or physical impairements.
Refuel: Beach bars along the shore offer easy eats like hot dogs, pizza, and ice cream, and the resort hotels at either end (towards Alcudia or Can Picafort) offer something for everyone (although many are 'all inclusive' and require you to visit Reception to buy a wristband for dining). For day-trippers, Muro also boasts a few fantastic, family friendly, seaside restaurants; time-tested island favourite Ponderosa specialises in paella but need early booking in the summer. Alternatively try Can Gavella or Milano Beach for a super Med menus from Paella to pasta, and beautiful settings just above the beach. Further towards Alcudia, newcomer Numa Beach is where to head for all day seaside chic 'insta-friendly' vibes (with a kids menu!).
Access: Getting to Playa de Muro is easy by car or bus. The TIB bus runs frequently from Alcudia, Can Picafort and other nearby towns. There is also a direct bus from Palma and another from the airport. If driving, there are small car parks dotted along the main road behind the beach, in between the hotels and along the side roads. There are also a number of disabled parking bays closer to the beach on the smaller access roads.
