Easter in Mallorca means quiet beaches, green countryside and warm spring days, all without the summer crowds.
Spring, many locals will tell you, is one of the best times to be on the island. The Tramuntana mountains are ideal for outings, beach restaurants are back in business after their winter break, and daytime temperatures are often warm enough for long afternoons on the sand. Time it right and you get Semana Santa too. Spain’s Holy Week runs the seven days before Easter Sunday and, although short on chocolate eggs and bunnies, brings costumes, candlelit processions and a dose of local culture that you won’t find in summer.
The Easter holidays are also a good moment to enrol the kids in a holiday camp. Padel, tennis, golf and watersports all run through the holidays. The conditions are perfect for them, and the downtime is not bad for you either.
One caveat: the weather, usually blue skies and sunshine, still comes with no guarantees. Even on the warmest days the sea, and most outdoor hotel pools, remain too chilly for more than a quick splash. That’s where a good indoor pool stops being a luxury and becomes the Plan B that makes the whole trip work.
Here are six hotels worth knowing about.
1.
Kimpton Aysla Mallorca — Santa Ponsa
Best for: Families looking for stylish design with serious spa facilities and sports camps on the side
Santa Ponsa sits on Mallorca’s southwest coast, about 20 minutes from Palma and the Kimpton Aysla hotel is well set for both easy drives to the beach and exploring the city. The hotel is low-rise, landscaped, and built around a series of pools and terraces that feel calm rather than corporate. The indoor spa pool is one of the largest on the island and available to families with children during fixed hours in the mornings and early afternoons.
There are two outdoor pools including a family pool with a shallow paddling area, and the CODAGE spa is one of the better ones in Mallorca for grown ups who want proper treatment time. Family rooms are spacious and well-designed for families of four.
Indoor pool: fixed family hours
Beach: 10 minutes by car to Santa Ponsa beach
Family rooms: sleep four, interconnecting available
Board basis: B&B, with good on-site dining
Kids’ club: select activities year-round, kids club July & August, confirm at booking
Why families love it: The combination of a genuinely impressive indoor pool, multiple outdoor options, and a design that doesn’t feel like a holiday village. Palma is close enough for days and dinners out without committing to staying there. Over Easter, the padel and tennis kids’ camps at Mallorca Country Club next door are worth knowing about, ideal if you are hoping for a round of golf or some time in the spa.
2.
Sheraton Mallorca Arabella Golf Hotel — Son Vida
Best for: Families who want peace, golf, and Palma on their doorstep
Son Vida is Mallorca’s quietest, most residential corner: a hillside above Palma with views over the bay, a cluster of grand hotels, and very little traffic. The Sheraton sits within the Arabella Golf complex, which gives it access to three courses and a setting that feels genuinely removed from the coast without being far from it. Palma is ten minutes by taxi but a rental car is best if you plan to explore further afield.
The Shine Spa indoor pool is open to families all day until 16h. There are four outdoor pools that open for the summer months, including one with impressive slides, and a kids’ club runs during school holiday periods. The hotel, and it’s rooms are classic in style, generously sized, and several have views worth waking up for.
Indoor pool: within the spa, family access before 16h
Beach: 15 minutes by car to Palma’s nearest beaches
Family rooms: sleep four, larger configurations available with interconnecting doors
Board basis: B&B and half board, multiple restaurants on site
Kids’ club: from 3yrs old, runs in Easter Holidays from 10-18h
Why families love it: The setting is peaceful and green, there are playgrounds and activities for younger children, top-notch golf for bigger kids and grown-ups, a spa for downtime, and Palma for easy evenings out.
3.
Iberostar Waves Playa de Muro
Best for: Laid back resort vibes, on one of Mallorca’s best family beaches
Iberostar Waves is a big family hotel, simple in design but styled well, and wonderfully set on one of the best family-friendly beaches on the island. The hotel shares a spa and indoor pool with its five-star sister resort next door, and the 25m indoor pool comes into its own at Easter, big enough to feel like a proper facility rather than a hotel afterthought.
Muro’s beach is directly in front, and S’Albufera Nature Reserve is moments away for bike rides and flamingo spotting. When you are ready for a change of pace, Alcúdia’s old town is close enough for a wander through cobbled streets and medieval walls.
Indoor pool: 25m lap pool in SPA Sensations facility
Beach: direct access, one of the best on the island
Family rooms: sleep four (on a sofa bed)
Board basis: Bed and breakfast, half board, or all-inclusive
Kids’ club: Star Camp opens May (not open at Easter).
Why families love it: One of the best beaches on the island on the doorstep, a serious indoor pool and spa for cooler days, and family friendly cycling, exploring and indoor padel courts close by.
4.
Zafiro Palace Alcudia
Best for: Families who want serious facilities and flexibility, nears Mallorca’s best family beach
Zafiro Palace is a big, well-equipped resort that does exactly what it promises: keep the whole family busy and comfortable without any fuss. The pool setup alone is worth the booking. A heated splash pool (don’t mind the pirate ship) opens in time for Easter hols, there’s a heated outdoor pool for adults, a small heated indoor family pool, and a spa pool. In April, when most hotels are still waiting for the sun to warm things up, Zafiro has options for everyone.
Nominated by Condé Nast as one of Spain’s top family resorts, Zafiro Palace Alcudia has five restaurants: one buffet and four à la carte including Mediterranean, Italian and Japanese. Note that the à la carte options are not normally open in Easter.
Kids’ club: Open from 1 April, ages 3 to 12, with some activities for teenagers too
Indoor pool: for families; one indoor (small) and an outdoor splash pool that is heated in April, plus other options for adults.
Beach: short walk to Playa de Muro
Family rooms: sleep four but can accommodate up to six in a two-bedroom suite
Board basis: B&B, half board or all-inclusive
Kids’ club: Open from 1 April, ages 3 to 12, with some activities for teenagers too
Why families love it: More pool options than almost anywhere else on the island, a kids’ club open from 1 April, and well placed for baby-friendly beach days and nearby day-tips.
5.
Hotel Es Port, Port de Sóller
Best for: Families who want character, calm and the Sóller valley on the doorstep
Hotel Es Port sits in 40,000 square metres of gardens in Port de Sóller, surrounded by orange and lemon trees, century-old olives and shaded terraces. It is a short, flat walk to the beach, the harbour cafés and the tram stop for Sóller town. The outdoor pool opens in May, but the 18-metre heated indoor pool is available year-round and has dedicated family swim hours.
Three tennis courts, a spa with sauna and jacuzzi, and two restaurants give you options on site but the setting is the real draw: unhurried, green, and framed by the Tramuntana mountains, with enough space for children to run and adults to actually unwind.
- Indoor pool: 18 metres, heated, family hours in the morning
- Beach: flat five-minute walk to the beach
- Family rooms: 148 rooms across several buildings, various configurations
- Board basis: half board available, breakfast included as standard
- Kids’ club: none, the grounds, tennis courts and beach do the work
Why families love it: Historic gardens with mountain views, a heated indoor pool with family access, flat walk to the beach and tram, and two restaurants on site including à la carte dining.
6.
Meliá Cala d’Or Boutique Hotel
Best for: Early season beach hopping in an easy going seaside resort
Cala d’Or is one of the southeast’s most appealing resort towns, especially before the crowds descend; a cluster of whitewashed architecture, calm marina, and a series of small sandy coves within walking distance of each other. Meliá’s boutique property sits in the middle of it all, calm and classically styled, but with a family friendly vibe and a good-sized heated indoor pool, ideal for the occasion rainy day.
It’s the smallest hotel on this list, which is part of its appeal. There are no waterslides or entertainment programmes; the draw is the location and the ease of walking to Cala Gran, Cala Ferrera, and the town’s restaurants without getting in a car. Junior suites sleep four with children on sofa beds.
Indoor pool: heated with whirlpool
Beach: 200m walk to Cala Gran
Family rooms: junior suites sleep four, children on sofa bed
Board basis: B&B with poolside dining and à la carte restaurant
Kids’ club: none, the town is the activity
Why families love it: The right hotel for families who want to enjoy the coves of the south without compromising on stylish surrounds. The beaches are walkable, the town is pleasant, with some great eating out, and the scale keeps everything simple.
Easter in Mallorca: What to Know
- Temperatures: daytime highs of 17 to 22 degrees, cooler evenings around 12 degrees. Pack a few layers.
- Sea temperature: around 16 to 18 degrees. Cold enough that an indoor or heated pool is not a luxury. Pack the kids a wetsuit for outdoor water play.
- Semana Santa: Holy Week processions run from Palm Sunday through Good Friday. Palma’s are the most significant but most towns hold their own. Check local listings for timings.
- Beaches: quiet by summer standards. You will find a spot without difficulty. Parking is straightforward until mid-May.
- Restaurants: open and operating normally. Booking still advisable for Friday and Saturday evenings during Holy Week.
- Whats yet to open: very little. A handful of smaller beach restaurants open later in April, along with some of the water parks, but all the hotels, attractions, and main restaurants are fully operational.
