Trail Details and What to Expect
Take the winding, mountainous road through Bunyola toward Orient, or opt for a slightly longer flatter route via Alaró. Park along the roadside near the trailhead marked “Santa Maria 2h 40min” (don’t worry—you won’t be going nearly that far!).
Once parked, climb over the turnstile to start the trail, following a gentle flat path through a meadow towards the torrent. After about 20–30 minutes, you’ll reach a metal turnstile, and from there, the water play begins as you hop over the stream into the forest.
The descent to the waterfall meanders through the trees and, recent weather dependent, you may encounter a few fallen branches on your path. Whether you arrive at the base of the falls to a trickle or a full cascade, the waterfall and natural pools are a beautiful sight, and the meaning of its name ‘leap of joy’ feels just right. Enjoy playtime at the pools before heading back along the same path.
There are no facilities on the trail, so come prepared. After your hike, stop in Orient village for a well-earned lunch at one of the cozy restaurants.
Top Tips
Best Time to Go: Visit after rainfall for impressive waterfalls
Parking: Roadside parking is limited near the trailhead. Arrive early (before 11 am) on weekends to secure a spot.
Safety Tips: Be cautious on rocky sections, especially after rain. Take it slow, hold little hands and watch out for steep banks and high edges.
Spare Clothes: The water is chilly year-round, so pack a change of clothes and a towel—someone is bound to get wet! Wear shoes with good grip, water resistant if possible.
Lunch & Play: We love Es Freu d’Orient; excellent food, a kids menu and a fantastic garden with playground and a trampoline.
