Boat Trip from Port de Sóller to Cala Tuent: A Family Day Out on Mallorca’s Wild North West Coast

23rd September 2025

Cala tuent boat trip

If you’re staying near Sóller and looking for a day that earns its place in the holiday highlights reel, this is it. A boat trip from Port de Sóller to Cala Tuent runs along one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline in the Mediterranean – cliffs, caves, gorges and water so clear it looks photoshopped – and deposits you at an almost car-free cove that feels quite removed from the rest of the island.

The Journey from Port de Sóller

Half the fun of course (in this case, possibly more), is getting there, and this journey is spectacular from start to finish. Dramatic cliffs, hidden caves, a waterfall, and turquoise swim spots along the way. As you turn into the Cala Tuent, you feel as if you’ve stumbled across Mallorca at its most unspoilt – no hotels, no crowds, just clear water and pine-covered mountain peaks dropping to the sea.

Boats leave from Port de Sóller and you can choose your style of travel:

Speedboat tour (max 12 passengers) with SollerMar – the one kids will love. Speed, splash factor, swim stops and a little commentary along the way. Scheduled tickets include return fare and enough time for lunch and a swim at Cala Tuent.

  • Private or semi-private tours are available outside of high season on request (call or email). Pricing is per boat, not per person: €220 return (up to 5 people) and €270 return (6 to 12 people)*. Departure and return times are flexible and arranged in advance
  • Scheduled route tickets (shared tour) will be available to book online from late May / early June, normally with a fixed midday departure and return at 17h. A reduced children’s fare (2–11 years) and resident discount apply to these tickets.
  • Children aged 2 and over are welcome on board, though the experience may be best suited to children aged 4+.

Private charter – for a slower pace, Bonnie Lass Charters lets you set the agenda. Bring paddleboards, pack a picnic, take your time.

Ferry service – Barcos Azules is the no-frills option: it gets you there and back without swim stops or coastal detours. Book your return journey when you book the outward leg.

What to Spot Along the Way

Kids will love the dark caves you can cruise right into, gorges carved deep into the Tramuntana, and swim spots so clear you’ll want to dive straight in.

Highlights include Sa Illeta – a craggy islet poking out above the water, and Torrent de Na Mora – a dramatic canyon that drops straight into the sea. Much of the year, a freshwater waterfall spills into turquoise water below. Legend has it smugglers once used this gorge to sneak goods ashore. Today, canyoneers wait for the rains to tackle it with ropes and helmets. Much easier to admire it from the boat.

Arriving at Cala Tuent

Stepping onto the little jetty at Cala Tuent, you’ll find pebbles, pines, clear water and very little else. No shops, no sunlounger rows – just a handful of boats, the occasional hiker and, quite possibly, a goat or two.

For lunch, follow the path up from the beach to Restaurant Es Vergeret – rustic, relaxed, with hearty Mallorcan cooking, paella and views straight out to sea. Book ahead if you want a table on the edge. Or pack a picnic and find a spot under the trees while the kids climb and explore.

After lunch stroll back to the beach for a snooze or snorkel before boarding your boat back to the Port.

Practical Info for Families

Duration: Allow at least five hours for the return journey by speedboat with swim stops and lunch. Boat schedules are fixed, so keep an eye on the time.

Lunch: Book ahead at Es Vergeret or bring a picnic.

Good to know: Some boats continue on to Sa Calobra – a dramatic setting, but busier and with less beach.

What to bring: Swimwear, water shoes for the pebble beach, hats (limited shade on the beach), snacks, a picnic if not eating at the restaurant, and a light layer for the return journey.

Suitable for: Children three and over. Not suitable for pushchairs. If you’re travelling with very young children, a private charter gives you more flexibility.
