October is the month Mallorca blends beach days with village fairs, seaside picnics and the first of the autumn’s mountain hikes. The sea is just about warm enough for swimming, or at least splashing, and the island is quieter, greener and ideal for exploring.
What you lose, however, is certainty. October weather can change quickly, and a few seasonal businesses close as the month goes on. This guide covers what to expect, where to stay, and the family events worth planning around in 2026.

What’s the weather like in Mallorca in October?
October can be beautiful and, for families, can offer some of the best weather to discover the island. But it’s also a month of change. End-of-summer storms are expected, and temperatures can vary widely from one week, or even one day, to the next. Some years bring a wet spell early in the month followed by warm, sunny beach days, while others do the reverse.
Don’t panic if the forecast looks wet before you travel. October forecasts more than a few days out are notoriously changeable, and a week of rain symbols can easily turn into mostly sunshine, with the showers passing offshore. What you can count on is cooler evenings as the month goes on, so pack layers and plan for a bit of everything.
Holiday Planning Tips:
- Keep boat trips and anything weather-dependent flexible, with an alternative date you can push back to where possible.
- Book restaurants with indoor or covered options just in case, or book a few days before
- If you’re booking a hotel, look beyond the outdoor pool. An indoor pool or good rainy-day facilities can make or break a family holiday. Is the sea warm enough to swim?
With the sea averaging around 22°C, most children will happily swim on a sunny day. Unheated pools are a different matter. They cool down as the nights get colder, so if a pool matters most for the kids, make sure to pack mini wetsuits (or pick them up from Decathlon) – or get in touch to book a family friendly villa with a heated pool.
What to pack for a holiday in October?
Pack for two seasons: swimwear, sun cream and sandals, plus trainers, trousers, a warm layer for the evenings and a lightweight waterproof. The mini-wetsuit deserves a second shout-out if the kids are hoping to stay all day in the sea or enjoy an outdoor pool.
Is October a good time to visit Mallorca with kids?
Yes, if you can be flexible. Plan a mix of beach, exploring, adventure and Palma rather than a dedicated beach week, and choose accommodation that works whatever the weather.
October works well for:
- Families who’ll mix beach days with walks, bikes, villages and Palma
- Families with older children and teenagers who want to do more than sit by a pool
- Anyone who prefers quieter roads, beaches and restaurants
It’s less suited to you if:
- The beach and outdoor pool are the whole plan
- You’re counting on water parks, beach clubs or particular seasonal attractions, some of which close during October. Check dates before you book.
Where to stay in Mallorca in October
In October, accommodation matters more than in summer. Look at the whole set-up rather than the pool or beach alone. For families, the trick is choosing the right base and having enough alternatives that a rainy afternoon doesn’t derail the holiday. Before booking, you might want to look into:
- Is the outdoor pool heated, and is there an indoor pool?
- Is the kids’ club open during half term?
- Which restaurants are open, on site and within walking distance?
- What is there to do nearby if it rains?
- Do we need a car?

Where’s the best area to stay in October with kids?
- The north (Playa de Muro and Alcúdia): beach on warm days, with S’Albufera, cycling and Alcúdia old town nearby when you want a change.
- Port de Sóller: sea and mountains, and the tram into Sóller or train into Palma for non beach days.
- Palma and the southwest coast: the most flexible base, close to the city, the airport, and the best of the island’s restaurants and attractions that stay open all year.

Things to do with kids in Mallorca in October
- Beach days, on the good days. Keep them flexible. If you wake up to blue sky or have a warm, sunny afternoon, make the most of the beach.
- Family hikes: Cooler days make walking far more comfortable. For younger children, pick short routes with a payoff, like a viewpoint, a cove or lunch.
- Village fairs: There is a fair somewhere on the island every weekend in October. Our guide to Mallorca’s autumn fairs has the dates and which ones not to miss.
- Palma: A full day in the city without retreating from the heat. Palma with kids →
- Cycling: The Via Verde and Albufera routes are fun, or for a shorter route, try the Port de Pollença.
- The caves: Always a good option when the weather turns. Keep in mind many will have the same plan though!
- Adventure Days: For families with older children, Rock and Water runs adventure days on the east coast that combine cliff jumping, sea caving and abseiling. They’re generally suitable for strong swimmers of ages 8-10 and above.
- Boat trips: Explore famous spots like Sa Calobra or charter your own boat with a skipper for a half day adventure at sea. Many charter companies will allow you to change a booking date (where available) for a sunny day at sea. But always check the cancellation conditions as a smattering of rain is often not reason enough to request a refund.
What’s open (and what’s not) in October
October is not summer with fewer people, but Mallorca doesn’t shut down when September ends either.
Most hotels and restaurants remain open through October, with many continuing until the end of the month or into early November. The pedalo boats on a few of our favourite beach disappear and boat trip companies change their schedules but the main seasonal closures to be aware of are water parks and some beach clubs.
Water parks: most of the water parks are open at the beginning of the month, few remain open at Half Term. In 2026, Aqualand El Arenal closed for the season in September however Western Water Park is set to close mid-month, and Katmandu with its outdoor splash park stays open until the end of the month.

Our shortlist of family events this month. Details come from organisers and official sources, but timings can change, particularly if it rains, so check the event link or the organiser’s Instagram before heading out.
Wipeout Surf Film Festival, Peguera
Free family activities, including a beach clean-up, a roller-skating workshop, marine workshops and a skatepark, for children into surfing, skating and the sea.
- 11h: a beach clean-up with Protemar on Peguera beach.
- 12h: a roller-skating workshop with Roller Friends Mallorca.
- 13h-17h: skatepark, market and food trucks.
- Through the day: marine workshops from Fundación Palma Aquarium, plus live music in the afternoon.
- From 18h, the programme moves on to films and concerts.
Fira d’Alcúdia
Alcúdia’s 38th autumn fair fills the old town with a Roman market, local food, crafts and children’s activities, with Roman characters and street performances throughout the weekend. I’d go on Sunday, when the family programme is busiest.
- 10h: a Roman parade with characters from antiquity and musicians.
- From 10h: local farm animals, carriages and vintage motorbikes, plus AstroMallorca telescopes for looking at the Sun and Moon.
- 10h30: a traditional threshing demonstration.
- 11h: a gladiator demonstration.
- 11h-13h: Roman workshops for children, and a children’s traffic park (bring their bikes).
Fira Dolça
A village fair dedicated to Mallorcan baking, with ensaïmades, cocas, pastries and ice cream, plus parades, music, showcooking and children’s activities. There’s a chainsaw-cutting contest at 11h30!

Giants, demons and a correfoc on the 11th, and the last of the town’s fair days on the 18th, with a livestock show of Mallorcan breeds, sheepdogs and falconry.

Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, the night before All Saints’ Day (Tots Sants), a national holiday.
