An Almond Blossom Walk at Finca Galatzó with Kids

About Finca Galatzó

Finca Pública Galatzó is one of Mallorca’s largest public estates and a popular hiking area on the island. Covering around 1,400 hectares on the edge of the Serra de Tramuntana, it sits on the Ma-1030 between Es Capdellà and Galilea, about 2 km from the village. The estate borders Puigpunyent, Estellencs and Andratx, and has been publicly owned by Calvià since 2006.

Part of the UNESCO-listed Serra de Tramuntana landscape, the estate combines woodland, open countryside and old agricultural terraces with historic rural buildings. At the centre is Les Cases – literally ‘the houses’ – which includes the main house (with public toilets), an old oil press room, former limestone ovens and a small chapel. Note that the main house is closed for renovations in Spring 2026.

There are four marked itineraries covering around 35 km in total: Ses Sínies, Sa Vinya, Ses Planes and S’Esclop, the first three generally better suited to families. You can read more about route options here.

Our Route

From the main car park, follow signs for the Ses Sínies route. Wide estate tracks lead through almond groves and open countryside. Near the start, before you reach the main finca building, you’ll often spot the estate’s resident donkeys and black pigs in their enclosures on the left hand side.

After passing the finca, the landscape shifts from old terraces and olive trees to Mediterranean scrub and lush woodland. In places, the forest suddenly feels almost Jurassic Park in scale with towering trees set into the valley. Along the way, you’ll pass lime kilns, charcoal bunkers, old water channels and springs, likely a family of goats too. There’s a basic rest area near Ses Sínies, beside the remains of a Bronze Age site.

If no one’s complaining, add a short (250m) detour up to the Ses Sínies viewpoint for big views towards Puig de Galatzó, the Na Burguesa range and the Galatzó valley. Beyond this point, the route links into the more demanding S’Esclop hike, so most families opt to turn back here.

Variations

The full route is around 9 km, but it works just as well as a shorter out-and-back. Turn around whenever it feels right for your group. The almond blossom trees line the entrance to the walk so you’ll enjoy the seasonal blossom even if you turn back early.

Family Notes: Things We’d Tell a Friend

It’s a genuinely beautiful walk and worth the drive, but parking can be tricky if you arrive late morning. The estate sits at the end of a narrow unpaved track and spaces are limited. If the car park is full, there’s nowhere obvious to overflow park, which means carefully turning around and heading back down to the main road. Go early, ideally before 10h, or try later in the afternoon when some walkers are finishing up.

The almond blossom here is lovely, but it’s not the densest display on the island. For full-field blossom, inland areas around Bunyola are usually more abundant. What makes Galatzó special is the setting: blossom framed by Puig de Galatzó, wide open views and a varied walk that keeps everyone interested, not just there for the flower photos.

Practicalities

  • Access: Entry to the estate is free. Gates are generally open during daytime hours from 8-17h.
  • Facilities: Toilets are located near the main house complex, known as Les Cases. When open, Les Cases operates Monday to Friday 9.30–14.30, and Saturday, Sunday and bank holidays 10–17h. The building is closed for renovation in spring 2026. There is no café or shop on site, though when Les Cases is open there is a vending machine. You’ll find a few picnic tables near the entrance. Bring your own water and snacks.
  • Parking: Free on-site car park at the estate entrance, signposted from Es Capdellà on the Ma-1030. The final stretch to the entrance is via an unpaved track. It’s a popular spot, particularly during blossom season, and spaces are limited, so aim to arrive early, ideally before 10h. The start of the walking routes is clearly signposted from the car park.
  • Best time for blossom: Late January to February, depending on rainfall and winter temperatures.
