Palma Lights Switch On
🗓️ Nov 22
⏰ 19h
📍Plaça d’Espanya | Palma
Palma’s festive lights switch-on is a spectacular start to the season, with live music and street performances leading up to the traditional countdown that sees the city centre turn into a sparkling winter wonderland.
This year, for the first time, Palma’s Christmas lights Event will take place at the newly renovated Plaça d’Espanya. The show has been redesigned to accommodate better visibility and safer crowd flow, reassuring if you’re heading in with younger children.
This year’s switch-on begins at 19h with a new visual and musical show by Grup TRUI called El Ball de Les Dues Estrelles (Dance of the Two Stars).
Christmas-ready crowds can look forward to a 35-minute performance telling the story of two sister stars, Lira and Vega, reunited to dance a waltz guided by a glowing diamond. There will be a large central stage, LED projections, snow and smoke effects and a soundtrack synced to the lighting. The show features 13 performers, including acrobats and a floating installation that descends for the final dance. Everything leads up to the big countdown, when all of Palma’s Christmas lights switch on at once with a burst of luminous confetti.
In total, more than 3,350 lights and over 600 kilometres of decorations are going up this year, so the city will feel sparkly and festive from every angle.
